Parents and Boys of ‘96

The boys in this group will be vying for a position on the L3 team, previously known as ‘regional’ team. Those boys who are not selected for the L3 team are encouraged to continue to enjoy the game while developing their skills and tryout for a position on the L4, previously known as ‘premiere’ team.

The L3 sessions will be run by the L3 coach, Edison Hopkinson a Pre-B licensed coach, with assistance of officials from the club. The L4/L5 sessions will be run under the guidance of a qualified official from the club.

As all teams try to come together as quickly as possible in preparation for the season coach Edison will make every effort to make his selections in a timely manner, which is never an easy task, as his decisions impacts the coaches of the L4 and L5 teams.  On the topic of coaches, I am certain many of you are wondering who the coaches for the L4 and L5 teams are; unfortunately, at this point no coach has been named and we ask for your help.  Should anyone know of an individual who is interested coaching either team please refer them to the VP of boys competitive, Bob Monaghan, his email address can be found on the club’s website under contacts – difficulties please let me know and I will be pleased to assist.  The alternative would be looking to hire a coach.

The L3 team represents the highest level the boys can play in Ottawa. Many of the boys trying out will have played soccer or participated in skill development throughout the winter as they continue to pursue their dreams.  The skill level, commitment and passion of many the boys is quite high and the reason for mentioning this is twofold

• Should your son feel overwhelmed I strongly recommend they consider the tryout stream for the L4/L5 group and to do so now as oppose to struggling through tryouts and dealing with the disappointment of not being selected – please contact the tryout convener Rose Zeidan if this is the case.
• Should your son not be selected or be advised to switch to the L4/L5 tryout, encourage them to continue to play soccer and develop their skills as this is a very talented group.

The commitment required to play at the L3 level is significant and should be given serious consideration. Month long vacations have a negative impact on the team and the player’s development and should this be applicable please advice us now – it is only fair to the coach and the other boys.  As the time to develop and learn is in practice whereas games are to apply what has been learned – attending practices on a regular basis is important and should this represent a problem due to conflicts or for any other reason, again, please advise us now.

Please note there is a parents meeting starting at 6pm with the VP of boys competitive during the first tryout, March 3rd at St. Pats H.S
